The first thing anyone online should do, is get a antivirus program, free or paid, works just fine, I do think you get what you pay for, so dish out a little.

Next you will need a adware spyware removal tool, I do advise going with a free and paid tool, you can do a search online for Microsoft AntiSpyware beta, it's free and really good.

Adware and Spyware Software

When you're learning about something new, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of relevant information available. This informative adware and spyware article should help you focus on the central points.

Adware is any software application software which makes banners appear the whole time it is in function. Also, the adware program can install components that will transmit information about the user and its behavior and this work on his PC. Unlike spyware programs, the user is asked when the program is being installed. Actually, an adware application is the application that, along with its basic functionality, has a different one, the one that makes it show commercials once in a while, downloaded periodically from certain internet servers.

Spyware is a program, usually downloaded from the internet, which sends information about the user without him knowing it, every time he connects to the internet. Usually, the packages sent contain marketing information and not confidential information, although some programs can do that too.

Even if some applications are both adware and spyware, this is not a generally true situation. Most of the times spyware applications have installed themselves and they are working without the user knowing it, opposing the adware applications that cannot be installed without the consent of the user.

For a long time quality and free software was installed and used for free but once the complexity of the programs became greater their costs have risen till the point the developers just had to find out methods to diminuate them. One of the easiest ways was delivering along with their programs application like adware and spyware. On the other hand, many commercial programs became usable freely and legally by passing the line to the adware category.

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:

From the harmless intention of showing some commercials and till elements of analyzing and stocking information about the user and his software or hardware configuration the developers had to install on the target computer supplementary modules. If at the beginning it was only an engine that downloaded commercials and showed them in pre-calculated windows, the adware industry has evolved and grew a great bit since then. Now they use different instruments, from altering your browser and its settings and till launching background applications that monitor your PC activity.

Among the effects that follow installing spyware and adware are the next ones:

- Adding links to various magazines - Adding new commercials on the web pages, sometimes replacing the existent ones - Monitoring browser behavior in commercial purposes. - Gaining access to passwords and credit cards. - Slowing down the computer. - In some cases they can call telephone numbers with high costs. - Changing the browser's homepage in commercial purposes. - Strange icons and new software might appear on the desktop.

You can enter their online sites and try the services for free, then decide what to use.

Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of adware and spyware. Share your new understanding about adware and spyware with others. They'll thank you for it.

Protect Your Computer From Adware and Spyware

Are you annoying of adware and spyware every time you open any websites? They have now reached epidemic proportions. They are every where in the cyber world. Here are four methods to remove or simply avoid adware and spyware without spending a dime on the latest "anti-virus" software.

1. Do not use Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is like Swiss cheese. It is open to the world by default. Microsoft is continually releasing patches to fix all the flaws in the Internet Explorer 6.X and lower versions of the browser. Although it can be "secured" by increasing the security it may loose much of its functionality once set to maximum security with certain exploitable features off.

2. It is highly recommended you should use Firefox. If you don't use the Internet much, than perhaps you don't know much about Firefox. All you need to know is that it is a browser that works REALLY well and has great security features.

3. Use a software or hardware firewall (not just Window XP Service Pack 2's firewall). This may sound expensive and hard to do but it is not. If you have a DSL or broadband cable connection your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may have given you a DSL/Cable router with a firewall built in. All you have to do is turn it on. This may require you to take a few minutes to read the manual. If your ISP did not give you a DSL or Cable broadband router with a built in firewall you can spend anywhere from $20 - $60 (or sometimes even cheaper with a mail-in rebate) to get a router. If you have DSL you will need a DSL router. If you have Cable broadband ISP you will need a Cable Router. Brands such as Linksys have built in firewalls and a feature called NAT, Network Address Translation, which is very effective since it hides your real IP address from the Internet. All routers come with instruction on how to hook them up. If you want to keep you computer security free, just use a free software firewall.

4. Remove spyware/adware with free anti-spyware, anti-adware software. Other two excellent methods of cleaning your system for free are Lavasoft's Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

It is better to use all of the above methods. Being proactive by surfing with a decent browser and getting a firewall is important, but it also helps to know about a couple of good anti-adware/spyware applications. There are many great forums on the Internet dedicated to doing nothing but finding and cleaning such malware. Chances are if your system is infected with it, hundreds of others before you have been infected and have already figured out how to get rid of the malware.George Williams maintains many autocad websites, including Auto Cad Secrets, The Auto Cad Guide ,and Autocad Information Now.

Spyware is the most common threat to online computer safety, security and your privacy.

Spyware adwares allow most companies to track your surfing patterns and internet behavior and record your credit card and other personal information without your permission, which they sell and make a lot of money from.

Spyware adwares can take control of your browser and alter your computer system files and use them for many purposes.

They can be used to do bulk e-mailing spamming other people. They can be used to login to porn sites etc. (You get the picture.)

These computer parasites slow down your internet connection by flooding you with unwanted spyware pop-up ads and junks.

Here is a testimonial from a customer who has benefited from Xoftspy,

"Hey Guys, I performed a free scan on my machine and, not only was your scan much faster than the two competitive products that I regularly use (make that 'used'), but it found 47 objects of significant threat that the others failed to detect. My machine is configured with 512mbs of RAM of which over 250mbs was being used prior to the scan.

After purchasing your software (great price btw), not only did my machine finally lose some deeply embedded malware problems, but my memory usage dropped 80mbs my standard SOHO machine now runs faster and cleaner than ever before!

Despite firewall protection, anti-virus, two spy ware real-time prevention cleaners, and diligent permission administration I was still getting whacked over the wire with all sorts of threats. Since using your product, I have de-installed those competitive solutions and am now operating much cleaner and faster.

Thanks for the great software and thanks for helping out my small business, my customers appreciate it! By Joe L. Murrieta, California USA" Here is another one: "Hi, I recently purchased Xoftspy in an endeavour to locate the cause of Internet Explorer crashing and my registry continually being corrupted. For the past three months I have been continually changing my banking and other access passwords as I was unsure if the virus was breaching my privacy. I was initially against purchasing Xoftspy as two other software vendors could not locate my problem, nor could Microsoft support. Xoftspy located the virus (Trojan) and eradicated it. Explorer no longer crashes and my registry remains 100% clean.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank your team for developing Xoftspy which is simple to use, exceptionally effective and very well priced. Kind regards. By Sam (from Australia)" May this article help you to know how to protect your computer from the menace of adwares, spywares, worms, virues and mewares.

What are Viruses - Worms - Trojan Horses - Adware - Spyware - Firewalls - Spam - Popups

What are viruses?

Viruses - A virus is a software program that is capable of replicating with little or no user intervention, and the replicated programs also replicate further. Viruses piggyback on real programs. For example, a virus may attach itself to a program such as a spreadsheet program. Each time the spreadsheet program runs, the virus runs as well, and it has the opportunity to reproduce by attaching to other programs. The purpose of a virus can be anything from erasing files, formatting your hard drive, to replacing text in your document Viruses are often disguised as games or images with clever titles such as "Pictures of ME". E-mail Viruses - An email virus moves around in e-mail messages, and usually replicates itself by automatically mailing itself to the people in the victim's e-mail address book.

Worms - A worm is a virus that spreads by creating duplicates of itself on other drives, systems, or networks. Worms may send copies of themselves to other computers across network connections, through e-mails, through infected web pages, or through instant messages. Trojan Horses - This program may claim to do one thing (such as claiming to be a game) but instead does damage when you run it. Trojan horses are not technically viruses, since they do not replicate.

What is adware?

Adware is added to your computer generally without your knowledge when you download anything free over the Internet. This method of downloading is known as "stealth software" or "drive-by downloads". Your computer could have been infected by mal-ware during online activities such as downloading music, pictures, shareware programs like screensavers and animated cursors, popup ads, email attachments or by even visiting some websites that use Active X coding to insert parasites onto your computer. Pay particular attention to the fine print when downloaing anything over the Internet. Some programs include brief information in the Terms and Conditions related to serving you targeted ads based on your shopping habits.

What is Spyware,

Spyware is software that gathers user information through the user's Internet connection usually without his or her knowledge, typically for advertising purposes. Spyware is downloaded through the Internet. Once installed, the spyware monitors user activity on the Internet and transmits that information in the background to someone else. Spyware can also gather information about email addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers.

What are hackers?

Firewalls keep people from accessing your computer with malicious intent when you are connected to the internet. A firewall allows "good" data traffic and will block all "bad" data traffic. An example of good traffic would be surfing the web, downloading reputable files, chatting, etc. The things you enjoy doing on your computer. The bad traffic is what hackers enjoy doing on your computer such as stealing files, using a Trojan to control your computer, and disrupting your connection or network. Each computer contains ports which are entrances for hackers to invade your computer. A firewall goes to each of these ports and monitors everything that is going in and out of your computer, it makes sure that the proper ports that allow the "good" data are opened, and it closes the ports to "bad" data.

What is identity theft?

Adware programs gather information from your computer for marketing purposes. The information is used to decide, for instance, which advertisements to display when you are on a specific Web site or which advertisements to display in pop-up windows on your desktop.

What is spam?

Spam is unsolicited email, not unwanted email. If you have signed up for an email list and receive an email that is not spam. If you unsubscribe to that list and continue to receive emails then that becomes spam. While spam is annoying it is generally not dangerous to you or your PC. In January of 2004 the federal Can Spam law took effect with broad reaching requirements and penalties. Tip: if you see a company name and address at the bottom of an email, that generally means you can use the remove link and it will be honored as they are following the Can Spam law. If you do not see an address and only a remove link, then it is not a good idea to use that link as that would indicate a live email address to the spammers.

What are popups?

Popups There are two distinct typeds of popups. Browser based popups - when you are visiting a website and the website generates a popup. Adware based popups - when you are not "moving around" the internet and just start getting popups. Both tend to be annoying but may not be dangerous.

Protecting Your Computer from Adware and Spyware

Recently, while checking our company web site statistics, we noticed a number of referrals from gambling and pornography sites. Since we are certain these types of sites would not house links to us, we investigated further and determined that some of our faithful visitors may be the victims of adware or spyware.

Recently, while checking our company web site statistics, we noticed a number of referrals from gambling and pornography sites. Since we are certain these types of sites would not house links to us, we investigated further and determined that some of our faithful visitors may be the victims of adware or spyware.

What is adware?

Adware, in it's most sinister incarnation, is a program that runs on your computer (like a virus) and occassionally pops up ads or redirects your browser to websites you had not chosen to visit.

What is spyware?

Spyware is software that collects personal information from you without your knowledge or permission. The information spyware collects can range from all the web sites you visit to sensitive information including user names and passwords.

How can I make sure I don't get these on my computer?

  • Never download programs or files from a website you don't know and trust.
  • Never open email attachments unless you know what they are. If you receive an email from a friend, but the text is strange and you don't know what the attachment is do not open it. Write to your friend and make sure they sent the email.
  • Keep an antivirus program running on your computer at all times.
